An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic CMT to join our Cardiology Department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR) serving a local population of 390,000.
This is a substantive appointment and the successful applicant will work closely as part of a dynamic cardiology team within the Trust..The role will be to provide support to the delivery of invasive and non-Invasive at the the Royal Preston Hospital. The post holders will be given the opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of Cardiology with encouragement for personal and professional development.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the major acute Trusts in the North West with all of the usual specialties on site but is also a Tertiary Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria in the Departments of Neurosciences, Nephrology, Oncology, Plastic Surgery and Burns. Services are provided across two sites: Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley & South Ribble District General Hospital.
The Cardiac Physiology Department offers a full range of investigations on both sites. Including transthoracic, trans-oesophageal echocardiography, autonomic function and tilt table testing. The department also runs Rapid Access Chest Pain, Heart Failure and Direct Access Clinics for GP’s for Echocardiography and ECG Holter Monitoring. The post holder will be linking with these clinics and the Heart Failure and Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse Specialist Team.
We have a Cardiac Catheterisation Suite (CCS) which predominantly undertakes diagnostic angiography and permanent pacing procedures but also loop implantation/explanation, internal and external cardioversion, transoesophageal echocardiography and a range of other studies. Coronary intervention is currently performed by the local Consultant Cardiologists at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
Training in various aspects of cardiology will be provided to the selected individual. The post holder will have involvement in Cardiology out-patient clinics, in-patient care of cardiac patients in Coronary Care Unit and step down beds. The post holder will be working with the team within non-invasive and invasive cardiac procedures (coronary angiography, permanent pacemaker implantation along with trans-oesophageal echocardiography).
The hospital complies with the European Working Time Directive and offers an excellent Postgraduate Medical Centre and library. The post holders will be part of the Cardiology Firm and will assist in the training and development of other members of staff within the role, as required.
The Foundation Trust was formed in 2002 and is one of the largest NHS providers in the region employing over 5,300 staff. The hospital is ideally located next to major motorway networks and access to Manchester, Liverpool, Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District is less than 1 hour away.
Applications are invited from doctors with full GMC License to practice. Previous experience in Cardiology and a higher qualification (MRCP (UK) or equivalent) will be advantageous but not essential.
